Il Giro della Regione FVG è una corsa prestigiosa, la più antica gara ciclistica a tappe italiana per dilettanti, nata nel 1962, ha scritto importanti pagine di storia del ciclismo italiano e internazionale, vetrina e trampolino di lancio di giovani campioni del futuro e che da sempre si intreccia anche con le vicende storiche e culturali del suo territorio. Nel primo trentennio della sua storia, l’unica volta che la corsa è stata costretta a fermarsi forzatamente fu nel 1976, a causa del terribile terremoto che colpì il Friuli. L’anno successivo ne diventa anche un simbolo di ripartenza per la sua gente.
La prima edizione del 1962, disputata in tre giorni e quattro frazioni, fu vinta da Giovanni De Franceschi che fu il primo a scrivere il proprio nome nell’albo d’oro della corsa. L’anno successivo, nel 1963, la firma che comincia a fare storia è quella del grande Felice Gimondi. Il campione bergamasco di Sedrina vince in Friuli, passa professionista e due anni dopo nel 1965, a 22 anni, vince addirittura il Tour de France. Una storia che oltre 50 anni dopo si è ripetuta nel 2018 con la vittoria al Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia dello sloveno Tadej Pogacar che due anni più tardi, nel 2020, pure lui a 22 anni, ha vinto il Tour de France per la prima volta, facendo anche il bis nell’edizione 2021 e secondo quest’anno.
In mezzo alle edizioni vinte da questi due campioni sono davvero tanti i nomi illustri del ciclismo che hanno lasciato la loro firma sulla classifica finale della corsa friulana. Per fare alcuni nomi: Marino Basso (1965), Claudio Corti (1977), Claudio Chiappucci (1984), Gilberto Simoni (1991 e 1993), Danilo Di Luca (1998), Gianluca Brambilla (2009), Diego Rosa (2012), Jan Polanc (2013).
L’ultima edizione, nel settembre 2021, è stata vinta dal tedesco Jonas Rapp.
Negli ultimi anni la regia organizzativa della corsa è passata nelle mani della Libertas Ceresetto con il presidente Andrea Cecchini, il responsabile percorsi e sicurezza Danilo Moretuzzo e il coordinamento dell’ex professionista Christian Murro che, insieme alla loro squadra di collaboratori, con grande impegno hanno dato nuovo lustro a questa storica manifestazione con la voglia di continuare una grande tradizione per lo sport friulano, nazionale e internazionale. Anche quest’anno sono attesi i migliori giovani del panorama internazionale e si annuncia grande spettacolo.

The Giro della Regione FVG is a prestigious race, the oldest Italian cycling race in stages for amateurs. Born in 1962, she has written important pages in the history of Italian and international cycling, a showcase and springboard for young champions of the future and which has always been intertwined with the historical and cultural events of its territory.
In the first thirty years of its history, the only time the race was forced to stop was in 1976, due to the terrible earthquake that hit Friuli. The following year it also became a symbol of restart for its people.
The first edition of 1962, held in three days and four fractions, was won by Giovanni De Franceschi who was the first to write his name in the gold roll of the race. The following year, in 1963, the signature that begins to make history is that of the great Felice Gimondi. The Champion from Sedrina wins in Friuli, passes professional and two years later in 1965, at the age of 22, even wins the Tour de France. A story that over 50 years later was repeated in 2018 with the victory of the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar at the Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia who two years later, in 2020, also at 22, won the Tour de France for the first time time, also doing an encore in the 2021 edition and second this year.
In the midst of the editions won by these two champions, there are so many illustrious names in cycling who have left their mark on the final classification of the Friulian race. To name a few: Marino Basso (1965), Claudio Corti (1977), Claudio Chiappucci (1984), Gilberto Simoni (1991 and 1993), Danilo Di Luca (1998), Gianluca Brambilla (2009), Diego Rosa (2012), Jan Polanc (2013).
The last edition, in September 2021, was won by the German Jonas Rapp.
In recent years, the organizational direction of the race has passed into the hands of Libertas Ceresetto with the president Andrea Cecchini, the routes and safety manager Danilo Moretuzzo and the coordination of the former professional Christian Murro who, together with their team of collaborators, with great commitment have given new luster to this historic event with the desire to continue a great tradition for Friulian, national and international sport. Also this year the best young people on the international scene are expected and a great show is announced.
